Categories : Uncategorized

Laminate flooring is one the most popular flooring products in the market, it’s not only durable and versatile but also affordable and easy to clean and maintain.

What Is Laminate Flooring And How Is It Made?

Laminate flooring is a versatile and attractive flooring option and is the first choice for those who want the look and feel of hardwood at a fraction of the price.

Laminate flooring is made of layers of dense fibreboards glued together under high pressure. The top layer is a high-density fibreboard covered with a high-resolution image of the hardwood.  Thanks to the high-quality decorative layer, laminate flooring can closely mimic any species of natural wood or stone.

This construction method makes the laminate flooring a more environment-friendly option as less wood was used in its construction because of the more efficient use of wood fibre.

How To Measure Laminate Flooring?

Without knowing the accurate measure of your room, you cannot come up with how much material you should order and how much budget you should allocate for the project. Here are some simple steps to measure a rectangular or square room for laminate flooring:

1-Measure and multiply:

First, you need to measure the length and breadth of the room. You can do the using either measuring tape or laser equipment. Once you have the room dimension, simply multiply them to get your room’s square footage.

2- Add extra material:

Now you have your room square footage add some extra material to that to accommodate for cuts, wastes and staggering. The amount of extra material varies with the type and brand of the laminate flooring but it’s usually between 10-15%.

Can Laminate Flooring Be Installed On Steps?

Yes, laminate flooring can be installed on steps. It should be glued on steps with regular wood glue. No underlayment is needed. The transition pieces need to be nailed down. This ensures a smooth transition between flooring and steps.

Can I Glue Laminate Flooring?

Yes, you can glue down tongues and grooves to get better water and dust resistance. In some cases, manufactures may recommend gluing laminate flooring to seal the joints. For example, it’s suggested to seal the joints by gluing in some water-prone areas such as in the bathroom or certain areas of the kitchen.

Please keep in mind that the laminate flooring should not be glued to the sub-flooring, the only exception is when installing on steps where no underlayment is used.
